Heyburn
This town was one of the first to be laid out by the U. S. Government in Idaho, orginally named "Riverton". However, during that era, there were so many towns named "Riverton" the name was changed to its current day "Heyburn" after Senator Heyburn. Weldon Heyburn of Pennsylvania moved to Wallace, Idaho, in 1883 as a practicing lawyer. He was a member of the convention that framed the constitution of the State of Idaho in 1889. He was a National Committeeman for Idaho from 1904 through 1908. He was elected in 1903 as a Republican to the United States Senate. Heyburn was then reelected in 1908 and served from March 4, 1903, until his death in Washington, D.C., October 17, 1912.
